Didier Carré's exhibition at Demonia awed crowds throughout its four week run ending on 10 November and anyone who missed it should make sure they watch these pages for the next event.
Demonia is special. It is the biggest, classiest, most luxurious sex-shop in Paris and is known by S&M devotees across the world. On the grand tour de Paris, once you have seen the Eiffel Tower, ask any cab deriver to drop you at Demonia.
In his usual methodical way, Carré did everything himself: from the shooting, through the processing in his 'submarine' laboratory, to hanging the show. Carré chose to display with his celebrated artwork and prints, copies of the same photograph in levels of toning, the processing craft revealed in all its importance and magnitude.
But what is a show without models? They were there, too, dressed, as M Carré puts it, in nothing but their glance and extravagant gestures.
"After taking a look at my prints the viewer is invited to find the courage to hold the piercing gaze of my models," said Carré. "It is impossible. Once you are under their charm, you are conquered. You can do nothing but submit."
